LITweetup Helps! – Thank You

Category : News

What an honor it was to have been involved with this great project.  I am amazed by the wonderful generosity of Long Islanders when given the opportunity to help out their neighbors, and on behalf of the amazing LITweeup Helps crew, I thank you all.

Thanks!

Those who helped

Thank you to each person who took time to come to the events and donate their food and money to feed people who needed their help thru Island Harvest.

Those of you who are on twitter, we've featured you on a list and will be encouraging folks to #FollowFriday you :)

We've also created a list of the organizers for LITweetup including all the dedicated people who worked their behinds off to make this happen (Becky Kopprasch, Mitch Hagler, Jean Prytyskacz, Steve Haweeli and me) and the awesome folks who inspired and encouraged (Dani, Ed and Ray).

Special thanks to the good folks at Doherty Inc, owners of the Panera Bread locations and awesome partners in this event!

Still Want to Help?

Please donate online using the ChipIn widget in the sidebar. I'll be mailing out Panera Bread coupons to anyone who donates and emails me at litweetup@namnum.biz until our supply runs out.

Hey Suffolk County Tweeters! We finished out the weekend with a bang! Despite the first relatively nice day in awhile, quite a few big Long Island tweeters were in attendance.  Me (@MissBeckala), @LovelyLu, @SueannesJewelry, @TwittyWoman, @Spinderella and family, @ColorfulVisions, @PTA_Mom, @JesseMac74, @TimelessLisa with her daughter and @drhli stopped in. During the three hour event:

  • Approximately 75 pounds of food was collected
  • $50 dollars was raised (according to Island Harvest $1 provides 2 meals)

Please note: The monetary donation was a single $50 check (THANK YOU!!) written directly to Island Harvest, which I will mail out to them tomorrow.

foodMany thanks to all who attended and donated.  It was great seeing everyone in person and meeting some new tweeps! Also, thanks to the great employees at Panera Bread in Hauppauge, especially the managers Corey and Kevin who were kind enough to offer to hold our donations until Island Harvest comes to pick up their Thanksgiving donation.

So, after 2 weeks of planning, it is all over.  I am so happy that we raised so much for a great cause.  Just because the events are over, the donating doesn’t have to stop. Make sure to keep on eye on the site, we will soon be announcing a way to help Island Harvest online.

On a side note, I just want to say thank you to the LITweetup Helps! Organizing Committee (Myself, Jeff Namnum, Mitch Hagler, Jean Prytyskacz and Steve Haweeli).  You are truly a fantastic group of people and together we did a really good thing!  It has been a great few weeks and I look forward to the next set of charity events that we hold.

LI Tweetup – Hampton Bays

Category : Uncategorized

The Hampton Bays LI Tweetup on Saturday, November 14 was a success in many ways. For one thing, we all got a chance to put the face to the avatar: the indefatigable @MissBeckala, the effervescent @TheShoeDawg (with son @AaronHagler and wife Becky), young upstart @ChrisPisacano of @WordHamptonPR and yours truly @SteveHaweeli manned the @PaneraBread table on behalf of @IslandHarvest. Rain be damned: we ended up with close to 50 lbs of donated non-perishable food thanks to a hefty bag of canned goods donated by Alex Gordon (who learned about it on Facebook) and support from Yvette Somekh ($25) and Gene Colleary of East Hampton and their pal, Priscilla. An intrepid reporter from the Southampton Press Group interviewed us, took some pics and even brought a food donation. Besides the inclement weather, we also had stiff competition from another food drive at the nearby Stop N Shop. It's all good: Long Islanders in need were the real winners today!

Ok Nassau County, great job! In the middle of a rainstorm and with only 2 weeks of promotion, we did a good job of feeding some of our neighbors. Here's the recap:

  • Approximately 30 pounds of food was collected
  • $42 dollars was raised (according to Island Harvest $1 provides 2 meals)

Please note on the monetary donations $25 was in a check written directly to Island Harvest, which I will mail out to them tomorrow and $17 was cash donations.  I will be pocketing the cash and making the exact amount donation online using my personal debit card under the name Jeff Namnum (correction 11/15/09 - I had my wife make the donation to save some time; it's under the name Ruby Namnum).

Much thanks to the amazing folks at Panera RVC, especially the GM Richard Balsam who was kind enough to offer to hold our donations until Island Harvest comes to pick up their Thanksgiving donation.

Please remember there are 2 more events left, on Saturday in Hampton Bays and on Sunday in Happauge.  If you can spare some time, stop by and drop off a donation.  If you can't make either one, keep on eye on this space, we will announce a way to help Island Harvest online.

I am very proud to be a Long Islander tonite.

New York Champions

Category : Uncategorized

So tonite we saw Champions made again (so sorry Philly).

Be a Champion!

This is one of those great New York moments, one when we can bask in the glory of our home team and feel good.

The Yankees were able to do that for thousands of people, would you please do it for one of your neighbors? On November 13th, 14th and 15th you get a chance to be a champion in the life of someone you might never meet, and all you need to do is pick a tweetup location, bring a donation for Island Harvest and come hang out. It will be fun - like always, we will laugh and make fun of each other for tweeting too much - like always,  but it will be better than any tweetup before it.  Other people will benefit from our fun.

See you there and thanks:

Friday 11/13: Panera Bread, Rockville Centre at 6:30-9:30pm
Saturday, 11/14: Panera Bread, Hampton Bays at 1-4pm
Sunday, 11/15: Panera Bread, Hauppauge at 1-4pm
